Often people can be unsure of where to turn or who to ask for help in difficult situations.
As advocates we can assist you in identifying the options available to you and we shall then support you in pursuing the course of action you wish to take.
Currently our service reaches out to older people in Denbighshire, ensuring that they have the opportunity to make their voice heard, empowering them to make independent decisions and gain confidence to deal with similar issues, should they need to, in the future.

Have Your Say in Advocacy

We provide information surgeries where you can acquire information on a variety of subjects from finances, benefits, health, housing, disability and care.
The information is provided by our trained volunteers in a one-to-one setting.
For more information on dates and times of our surgeries please see our website: www.access2advocacy.co.uk
We also have members of staff and volunteers who act as outreach workers, visiting clients at their homes, or at other suitable venues, who require more assistance and a lengthier period of help.

The types of issues we can help with are:

• Financial issues e.g. debt problems, losing your job
• Care issues e.g. moving into or out of a care home, receiving care at home
• Benefit advice e.g. ensuring you are receiving the benefits you are entitled to (we are however not benefit specialists, but can assist you through the process).
• Complaints e.g. complaining about a service you have received
• Housing issues e.g. making adaptations to your home, eviction, personal safety
• Reading letters and help understanding forms

We cannot provide legal advice for this you will need to contact a solicitor or the police.
However, we can help in contacting these people for you.
Currently you can access our services if you are over 50 and living in Denbighshire.
We will however in the near future be assisting those aged 11-25 too.

What does the law say?
What is independent advocacy?
Why might I need it?
When might I need it?
Who will help me get it?
Where can I get more information?
What does the law say?

Under the new Act people with learning disabilities and people with a mental illness have a right to independent advocacy.

Although people with learning disabilities and mental health issues have a legal right to an advocate, as a service Access2Advocacy in Denbighshire cannot support these groups as they must have specially approved advocates to assist them.

However we can direct people to these advocates and the organisations necessary!

You do not have to be in hospital to get this right.

This means that you should be able to have an independent advocate and/or join an advocacy group if you want to.

Independent advocacy helps you to make your voice stronger and to have as much control as possible over your life.
